'Stranger Things' Season 3 Trailer Reminds Us The Group Has Really Grown Up Since Season 1

Its hard to believe its already been three years since we first met the kids of Hawkins on the Netflix series Stranger Things, and the series has become something of a cultural phenomenon since then. At has spawned career for many of its leading actors, who were only twelve when the show started production. So the trailer for season 3 which premieres this fourth of July almost feels like catching up with old friends, and an emphasize on the word old. The trailer doesn't shy away from the fact that its young leads of aged since they first showed up on screen together, and will explore that shift in adolescence with the backdrop of the usual sci-fi craziness they seem to attract.

As I stated above, the trailer focuses a lot more on the evolution of characters and their relationships with each other rather than giving away much of its plot. We know Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mad Max (Sadie Sink) will blossom into a friendship, with some great scenes including a set taking place in the mall. We also get a hint that this season will focus on the theme of things changing for the group as they get older and aren't kids anymore, with Mike's (Finn Wolfhard) voiceover explaining that. This will apparently hit Will (Noah Schnapp) harder than the rest of the group as we see him holding a photo of the guys together in their Ghostbusters costumes. 

There's also of course the return of the bromance between Steve (Joe Keery) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), as the former will be working at an ice cream shop at the mall we see will serve as an important setting. We also get the return of Max's brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery), who will be working as a lifeguard at the local pool and still flirting with Mike's mom. There's been some speculation that Billy could eventually turn into the creature we see later in the trailer after being possessed, but thats just fan fiction at this point. There were complaints that the second season of the show didn't do as much with the older teen characters, so seeing the involvement of Steve, Billy, Nancy (Natalie Dyer), and Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) in the trailer is exciting.

Netflix hasn't been so loyal to some of their successful projects in the past such as the Marvel shows that were all canceled this past year, but it seems the Duffer Brothers are being given the freedom to fully develop their planned storyline for Stranger Things. While the cast is getting older, and there's only so many times we can see the Demogorgan attack Hawkins before its too much, season 3 might not be the conclusion to the series the trailer makes it feel it is. With the trailer already gathering hype from fans, and a return to summer release date, its looking like this season may very well give the first a run for its money.

'Stranger Things' Brings Back Two Familiar Faces And Adds Dacre Montgomery And Sadie Sink

This past summer, a little known show called Stranger Things made its debut on Netflix. No one knew much about it, including its cast of unknown young actors, its mysterious sci-fi plot, and its 1980s setting. But it didn't take long for the nostaglia and genius of Stranger Things to wow everyone around the world with a Netflix account, including several celebrities and just about all of Hollywood. The kids who starred on the show have since blown up on social media, and have made appearance on shows like Jimmy Fallon, and even the Emmys. With so much success, the series was bound to get a second season, and now we finally know two new faces that'll be coming to Hawkins, Indiana. 

Well to start things off, we know that the majority of the original cast will be returning, specifically the kids Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin. The main mystery is whether Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven will be returning, but that will likely remain under wraps until the show returns. We can also awesome we'll be seeing Will's mom, Harper, Jonathan, and Nancy return for the next set of adventures. We now have confirmation that Joe Keery will return as bully turned fan favorite Steve Harrington, and Noah Schnapp will return in a much larger capacity as Will Byers.

As far as the new cast goes, both Montgomery and Sink will be playing two new characters who cross paths with original gang, and are brother and sister. Sink's character is named Max and is described as "a tough and confident girl whose appearance, behavior and pursuits seem more typical of boys than of girls in this era. She has a complicated history and is generally suspicious of those around her." Montgomery on the other hand, who we'll see next year as Jason in Power Ranger is playing her older brother Billy who is "Max’s hyper-confident and edgy older step-brother. He steals girlfriends away from their boyfriends, is great at drinking games and drives a black Camaro. But lurking under his apparent charisma, is a violent and unpredictable nature."

Sink's character will most likely be interacting with the main group of kids, where as Billy will probably cross paths with Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan. We still don't know how these two will factor into the plot, but we do know they'll be important. There's still one more new character who has yet to be cast according to The Hollywood Reporter, and that's Roman who is "a male or a female of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 38. After growing up homeless with a drug-addicted mother, he or she suffered a great loss at an early age and has been seeking revenge ever since. Roman is ultimately an outsider who doesn’t understand how to connect with people." We'll most likely find out who's playing Roman in the coming weeks before season 2 starts shooting this month.

Remake Of Stephen King's 'It' Reveals First Look At The New Pennywise The Clown

Netflix's new series Stranger Things really paid tribute to the classic Steven Spielberg films and Stephen King novels of the 80s, and their results were very positive. The series has not only blown up in popularity in the last month, but it has also gotten excellent review for recapturing the nostalgia and feel of the era it takes place in. With so many people left wanting more of the series, the upcoming It remake is hoping to capitalize on that nostalgia and popularity of a story pitting an unlikely group of kids against an otherworldly threat.

The original It was of course a miniseries based on the Stephen King novels of the same name. King should be a familiar name to several movie buffs for his work on the source material of classics such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Stand By Me, and The Shining. The It miniseries was a standout in the 90s, and featured Tim Curry in the lead villain role of Pennywise the Clown. Over the years Curry's performance has been considered both horrifying and iconic, so it's clear that the remake wants to differentiate this version of the character from the old one.

Pennywise will now be played by a new and much younger actor named Bill Skarsgård (Hemlock Grove) who certainly has some big shoes to fill (No pun intended). The remake has been through several changes since its announcement including director Cary Fukunga (Beast of No Nation) being replaced by horror movie director Andrés Muschietti (Mama). Will Poulter was also initially cast as Pennywise, but he had to give up the part due to his role in The Revenant. We now have our first official looks at Skarsgård's version of Pennywise thanks to EW:

For those who don't know much about Pennywise, he's basically a demonic clown who feeds off children. If that sounds disturbing to you, its because it is. But much in the same vain as Stranger Things, the film focuses on a young group of unlikely heroes in 1989 known as the "Losers Club" who search for the killer of the one of the group member's younger brothers. Even the producers of the film have acknowledged the similarities to Stranger Things, and stated they'll be taking some pointers from the series. They even share cast member Finn Wolfhard, which you'll remember as Mike from Stranger Things will be playing Richie Tozier in this movie.
