My Top 15 Most Anticipated Movies of 2019

As 2018 comes to a close, its safe to say this year has had its fair share of surprises, movies that met expectations, and some the were flat out disappointments. Having said that, next year will surely be no different, but right now every movie has a clean slate to start with. While I have pretty much no knowledge of which movies will actually end up being my favorites next year, I do know which ones I have marked on my calendar. As usual, for a movie to make this list I probably have to know at least a little bit about it, so don't expect any secret Oscar movies that don't even have a plot synopsis here. Instead expect a list filled of remakes of Disney classics, projects from the best directors in the business, and of course plenty of superhero movies.

15. Rocketman

Last year this spot was given to Bohemian Rhapsody, so it's only fitting it now goes to Rocketman. The film will be based on Elton John's life and will serve as a concert movie like Rhapsody did, but will apparently be capitalizing on that even more. Rather than being a realistic biopic, it'll be incorporating fantasy elements and visuals specifically during the musical performances as was shown in the trailer.

The movie was originally going to star Tom Hardy as Elton, which personally would've been even more exciting and interesting that what we're currently getting. But it seems they've found a worthy successor in Kingsmen's Taron Edgerton, who can even actually sing. With Dexter Fletcher who directed Rhapsody also behind the camera for this project, I'm expecting another fun time at the movies from this one.

14. Aladdin

Funny enough, this was actually higher on the list before the first official stills from the movie were released a few weeks ago. Director Guy Ritchie has a tough task ahead of him adapting such an iconic childhood movie for so many people, but the first trailer managed to bring back all that nostalgia.

Unfortunately, fans already have their doubts about this adaption of the movie. Probably the biggest criticism has been of Will Smith's appearance as the Genie, although the actor insists he will be blue in the movie. The task of filling in the shoes of the legend Robin Williams is pretty major, but Smith is probably one of the only people funny and charismatic enough to come close.

13. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I have to be honest here, I'm not the biggest Quentin Tarantino fan. While I loved movies like Django Unchained, the director lost me with his latest effort Hateful Eight. But there's no denying the mans talented and brings a style of his own to all of his movies, and thats sure to be the case with this adaption of the Charles Manson murders.

I'm not sure how much freedom Tarantino will have the story, as this is the first time he'll be adapting a real life event to the big screen. It'll be interesting to see how he manages to take it his own way, while still staying true to the real victims. But the real selling point here is the star-studded cast led by Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio is the first time on screen together. The supporting cast includes the likes of Margot Robbie, Al Pacino, Emile Hirsch, and Bruce Dern which is just more reason to believe we'll be seeing this one around during the Oscar next year.

12. Us

During the days when I would watch Key and Peele sketches with my friends in high school, never would I have thought Jordan Peele would be an Oscar winning horror director. A lot can change in seven years. After how impressive his first effort Get Out was, Peele definitely has a tough act to follow.

Re-teaming Black Panther standouts Winston Duke and Lupita N'yongo is already a step in the right direction, and Peele seems to be tackling a whole new story here rather then relying on the same themes from Get Out. Its still hard to tell what exactly the movies about, but with Peele's creative mind behind this one he's surely going to find a way to mess with audiences heads when Us hits theaters.

11. Glass

Almost as rare as having a horror movie directed by a sketch actor on this list, is having a movie from the guy who made The Last Airbender to follow it up. While M. Night Shamalayn had become a bit of a joke to many movie goers, some of us still remembered the days when he created great movies like The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable.

Well last year's Split seemed to be a return to form for the director, and with a twist revealing the movie was actually connected to Bruce Willis character David Dunn from Unbreakable. Now Shamalayn has the challenge of merging the two worlds he created in these movies, and balancing the screen time between three great actors. With Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and James McAvoy all sharing the screen for this one, Shamalyn will have a lot on his plate. We're rooting for you man.

10. Captain Marvel

I never thought I'd have an MCU movie so low on my list, but here it is. To be fair, I don't know much about the character of Carol Danvers to begin with so that's part of the reason why I'm still not so excited for this movie. That being said, when the plot details for this movie were announced at Comic-Con a few years ago I was sold. Setting in the 90s with a young Coulson and Nick Fury, as well as having the Skrulls finally on the big screen was enough for me.

But the trailers for this movie have yet to impress me and most fans, and have made both the character and plot seem much more bland than we were expecting. Thankfully some extended footage shown a few days ago helped relieve some of those concerns thanks more lines for Carol and Fury, as well as more footage of the Skrulls. I can only hope this movie surprises me and makes me love and care about a character I don't know anything about like Guardians of the Galaxy did.

9. Joker

Forget trying to figure out what exactly DC is doing with their film universe right now, but we have somehow grasp the concept that this movie has nothing to do with that. Set in the 1980s, Todd Phillip's Joker movie will have nothing to do with Ben Affleck's Batman, and will actually only feature Bruce Wayne as a child. 

While the project seemed unnecessary at first, the casting of Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker managed to peek everyone's interest. Jared Leto's Joker has been panned by fans, so it shouldn't come a surprise that they've been much more welcoming to Phoenix. The set photos and videos alone is what really sold me on this one though, with flashbacks to Heath Ledger's Joker coming to mind. With all the talent that will be joining Phoenix on screen, and the mystery and complexity of this character's past, its certainly one of the most interesting projects of the year.

8. IT: Chapter Two

The first IT movie caught a lot of people by surprise, and the child stars of the movie helped make their character's iconic to audiences. Unfortunately this time around the kids won't be the focus of the movie, as it will instead focus on their return to the town they grew up in as adults. Its a very interesting concept as the adult Losers Club will now have to face off against Pennywise again, much like they did in the Stephen King novel.

The original director Andy Muchetti is back for the sequel, and he's put together an impressive cast and the adult Losers including Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader. The child cast will also apparently be returning for flashback scenes, but it will be an adjustment not getting to see them on screen together for the whole movie. One can only hope the adult actors bring the same chemistry and personality to these characters that their predecessors did. 

7. Shazam!

DC hasn't shied away from the fact that they're trying to distance themselves from the dark tone Zack Snyder had originally set for their film universe. Shazam seems to be the polar opposite of that, which was obvious as soon as sitcom star Zachary Levi was cast in the lead role. The movie was already under some criticism for the casting choice and leaked set photos of the suit, but the Comic-Con trailer finally settled a lot of those concerns.

Essentially this movie is Tom Hank's Big but with the main character turning into a superhero, with a lot of the same funny elements and light tones in it. Levi has the fun personality and charisma Hanks did in Big which just suits what they're going for perfectly, and makes it much more believable that there is a kid under that suit. While certain aspects of the movie such as its villain don't seem as impressive, the tone of the movie and chemistry amongst the younger cast is already enough to sell me on this movie.

6. Lion King

Whether you feel its necessary or not, The Lion King is finally getting the live-action remake we've been expecting these last few years. Thankfully, the trailer has already shown that it won't stray far form the original, recreating many of the iconic scenes from the animated movie with very impressive CGI. Jon Favreau is behind the camera for this project, and is someone who has already proven he knows how to adapt classic Disney stories like he did with Jungle Book. 

The cast is also very impressive with Donald Glover, Beyonce, Seth Rogen, and Chitwetel Ejoifor all taking on iconic roles. They've also brought back James Earl Jones as Mufasa that definitely wouldn't have been easy to recast. The trailers visuals and nostalgic callbacks are what really sold me on this movie, and the fact that its an adaption of one of my favorite animated movies of all time is also a huge plus. 

5. Toy Story 4

These movies are literally my childhood. I have mixed feelings about this one, given that in my opinion the original trilogy is flawless. I'm not sure where they're going story wise with this one, and if they're really going to be able to justify a fourth movie after what already seemed like solid conclusion. 

In the end its still a new Toy Story movie, and just to hear Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as Woody and Buzz again is enough for me to buy a ticket. The trailers so far have given nothing away other then a few new characters (Who hopefully win me over), but Allen has already teased just how emotional the last scene of this movie is. If there's one things I know these movies can pull off, its making adults cry. 

4. Star Wars: Episode IX

This is a tough one. Like most fans of the Star Wars series, I didn't exactly appreciate all the twists of Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi. While I didn't have the strong hatred for the movie most of the fan base had, there was certainly a sense of disappointment over the abrupt new path the series was taking.

But how could I still not be excited for the last movie in the all new Star Wars trilogy. I'm of course not excited as I'd hope to be at this point in the trilogy, but there's still unanswered questions and surely surprises we can expect at the conclusion or Rey's journey. But what really has me excited is JJ Abrams returning to the director's chair, where he can finish off the vision he originally had for these movies back when Force Awakens came out.

3. The Irishman

This movie honestly sounds like every mafia film fans dream. First of all its directed by Martin Scorcese, but it'll also star Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. While those are the biggest names involved, several other actors are also included such as Bobby Canavale, Ray Romano, and Sebastian Manascalco. It'll be an adaption of the real life story of Jim Hoffa, and will de-age the main stars in order to cover the important moments of their lives.

The only big reservation about this movie is that it'll apparently be released by Netflix, and still doesn't have a release date. Robert De Niro has said the film will be getting a theater release at some point, but one can only hope the fact it's being made for a streaming service won't water down the final product. De-aging technology can also be a hit or miss, and if done obviously can be a huge distraction from the story of the movie. Minus those concerns, its hard to not be excited for this movie with all the talent involved in front of and behind the camera. 

2. Spider-Man: Far From Home

So if that cat wasn't out of the bag already, some how Spider-Man is coming back after "dying" in Infinity War. With a sequel already announced and set for release next year, it'll be interesting to see just how much the events of the last Avengers movie had an effect on Peter. Is Tony Stark alive to make into the Spider-Man sequel? We still don't know.

What we do know is the events of the movie will be taking Peter and his classmates like Ned, Michelle, and Flash to different locations in Europe. But whats probably most exciting about this movie is the use of the villain Mysterio, who like Vulture in Homecoming, we still haven't on the big screen. If the visual possibilities of that alone weren't exciting enough, Jake Gyllenhaal will be the one under the fish bowl head. Director Jon Watts has already proven once he knows how to do Spidey's rogue gallery justice, and it seems like this time will be no different.

1. Avengers: Endgame

Don't act surprised. The movie that will probably be at the top of every movie goers list of their most anticipated of the year is this one right here. With the cliffhanger ending of Infinity War, and the Russo Brothers leaving all of us shrouded in mystery over whats going to happen in this movie, April can't get here soon enough.

While Infinity War was more of the grand spectacle and the large team-up movie we were all expecting, Endgame will apparently be a much more self contained and emotional movie. With pretty much only the main Avengers from the first film still alive, we know that somehow Scott Lang and Captain Marvel will also be joining the adventure and will play significant roles. The movie is also rumored to feature time travel to the events of the previous movies in order to stop Thanos, which is something that has been hinted at in leaked set photos. We're just going to have to wait and see where the Russo's decide to end this spectacle, and if everyone is going to make out alive.

Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Jacob Batalon Provide New Plot Details From 'Spider-Man: Far From Home'

Well Saturday has come and gone, and we never got the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer we were all expecting. It makes sense Marvel didn't want to steal their own thunder with the Avengers: Endgame trailer still dominating the internet, but lucky fans at CCXP18 in Brazil were still able to see the footage we'll apparently be getting later this month. Stars Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Jake Gyllenhaal all took to the stage and offered some very revealing details about the film's plot and villains. Contrary to what we've believed all this time, Mysterio will apparently be teaming up with Spider-Man in the movie to face an even greater threat. Not only that, but he has actually been hand picked by Nick Fury to do the task.

This will of course be confusing to comic book fans who are used to Quentin Beck aka Mysterio being one of Spider-Man's greatest foes. Gyllenhaal teased that the character and his relationship to Spider-Man are like nothing we've ever seen before, and this relationship is apparently at the heart of the film. The villains of the movie will instead be creatures known as Elementals, and Mysterio is the only person who has an understanding of how to stop them. This explains why Fury needs him to help Spider-Man take them down, but fans are already suspicious Beck may be one who created them. We all know Mysterio is a master of illusions, so pulling a trick like this seems like something his comic book counterpart would do.

With that twist in mind, the rest of the trailer goes pretty much as we'd expect. Peter Parker is seen in Venice with his classmates such as Michelle, Ned, and Flash on a field trip. We all get a scene of Nick Fury meeting Peter for the first time and providing him with the stealth suit we've seen in set photos. Tom Holland has teased this suit is intended for a specific mission but he won't reveal what. We also get a shot of Gyllenhaal in the full Mysterio suit from the set photos but also with the classic "fish bowl" head. The film will also apparently tease a romance between Happy Hogan and Aunt May, which is shown in a scene at the start of the trailer.

Obviously this is a lot to take in, and its hard to tell if Mysterio is actually an ally or if he will eventually be revealed to be the movie's villain. Its possible they could even have him as a hero in this movie and be saving his turn to evil for a future sequel. Not much is known about these "Elementals" but they are apparently creatures based of water, earth, and fire. The water based character could end up being a variation of Hydro-Man, or just an entirely new made up character. Fans at the event also made it clear that both the actors and the trailer itself do not mention the events of Endgame or Infinity War to avoid spoilers, so its unknown whats the status of Tony Stark at this point, or when the movie even takes place.

Trailer Reveals The Title And New Release Date For 'Avengers: Endgame' With Our Heroes In Despair

After weeks of speculation, the moment fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. Not only did the Russo brothers drop the trailer for much anticipated sequel to Infinity War, but they also revealed the title of the movie is Avengers: Endgame and its new release date of April 26th. A title that had coincidentally been suggested by many fans as its of course one of the famous lines Doctor Strange says when he's describing what he saw in his vision of the future. The trailer doesn't give us too much of the plot, but does give us an idea of what the effects of Thanos' snap have had on our heroes. We also get to see some familiar faces who weren't around for the first movie, which is sure to excite audiences.

With all the mystery surrounding this movie and just exactly what its about, it isn't surprising that the Russos leave out pretty much any hint of the plot or key scenes. Unlike the Infinity War trailer which gave us some shots of the final battle in the first bits of footage we saw (Even though it was edited to an extent), this trailer chooses to just set the tone of the movie. We get a scene of Tony seemingly alone in the Guardians' ship the Milano following the loss to Thanos on the planet Titan. As you may remember, all the other Avengers disappeared except Tony and Nebula (Who doesn't seem to be with him here). Tony is apparently accepting his own death in this scene, but its assumed someone, specifically Captain Marvel, may be the one to save him from the fate.

Then of course there's the remaining core Avengers on Earth who are grieving the loss of their friends. We get confirmation that even Black Panther's sister Shuri was one of the causalities of the snap, and also a tease that the team is assuming Scott Lang was also a causality. But as you will remember from the end of Antman and The Wasp, Lang survived the snap due to being inside the Quantum Realm and is seen showing up at the front door of the Avengers facility. Its been heavily teased that Lang and his understanding of the Quantum Realm will be the key to the Avengers preventing the snap from happening by going back in time, but there's still no hint of that in this trailer.

We also get a shot of Hawkeye now suited up as his other comic book identity Ronin. As Ronin, Hawkeye is more of a mercenary who used swords rather then a bow and arrow to confront his enemies. Its likely that his family who he was with during the events of Infinity War were all lost to the snap, and that is what has led to his return to crime fighting under much darker means. It seems Black Widow will be the one who finds him and convinces him the rejoin the team after time in isolation. Its still hard to tell how much time has passed since the events of Infinity War, but guesses have ranged from a couple of months to up to five years.

Review: 'Creed II' Gives The Dragos and Rocky Fans The Story Arc They've Been Waiting For

Who would've thought it would be 2018, and Rocky Balbao would still be in a movie hitting theaters. Thankfully, the iconic sports franchise got a reboot three years ago that surpassed all expectations. With that kind of success, it shouldn't have come as a surprise that we'd be getting a sequel to Creed with the stakes even higher. This time, the son of Apollo Creed would be facing off against the son of Ivan Drago; the man who killed his father in the ring. The much anticipated story was put in the hands of up and coming director Steven Caple Jr., with the responsibility of not only bring back an iconic villain, but also stepping into the shoes of the talented Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed). No pressure Steven, no pressure at all.

As a stated above the film follows the now champion of the world Adonis Creed, son of famed boxer Apollo Creed. With things looking good in both his personal life with his girlfriend Bianca, and his career, Donny is blindsided by a challenge to fight Viktor Drago. The raw and unknown Viktor has been training in Ukraine with his father for the right opportunity to take on Donny in front of the world, giving boxing fans the match of their dreams. With his father's death at the hands of Viktor's father to motivate, Donny is now left with the chance to finally do what his dad couldn't and beat a Drago once and for all.

One of the biggest challenges the film has to tackle is taking the over the top story of Rocky VI and grounding it in realism. Caple Jr. and co. manage to pull this off perfectly, specifically in the way they've added depth to Drago's character. You really feel like this was a man who has been shunned by his own country and even those close to him, and that motivation is made clear through scenes between him and Viktor. While I could've used more scenes developing the relationship between Ivan and Viktor, its made clear that the later Drago is tough on his son. Making Viktor a more quiet character who showed little emotion around anyone aside from his father also was key to showing this, and helped make his character even more intimidating and hard to read. Does he really share a strong hatred for Creed, or is he just doing all this to please his father?

Once again the standout performances come from Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan. Stallone's further exploration into Rocky's own past mistakes and loses feels genuine, and he gets some great emotional scenes with Donny and Bianca. Stallone plays Rocky as an even more calm and wise figure in Creed's life then in the first film, and it mirrors how Rocky trusts Donny to make his own life decisions. While there unfortunately isn't too many scenes between Stallone and Lundgren, the tension is felt whenever the two are starring each other in the eye. The film makes it clear that Stallone as Rocky is passing the torch to Jordan as Creed, and this is made clear by his slightly more distant presence in the movie.

Jordan brings the dramatic scenes to life every time he's on the screen, truly helping the audience feels the frustration and mixed emotions Donny is going through. The contrast between Jordan's portrayal of the character's soft side when he's around Bianca and their daughter, to the anger filled scenes when he's face to face with the man who killed his father is remarkable. Some of the movies most emotional scenes are taken to another level by his performance, and his chemistry with both Stallone and Thompson is certainly a huge factor.

As for the direction of the movie, Steven Caple Jr. does a great job injecting his own style while still making it feel like a continuation of what Coogler did the first time around. Unfortunately some of Coogler's signature touches such as the one-take fight scene, as well as the perfect incorporation of the soundtrack in certain scenes aren't present here. Some of the fights in particular probably really would've benefited from Coogler's direction, but I feel Caple Jr. really shines with how he handled personal character moments. There are smaller scenes in the movie and exchanges between characters in the movie that may not seem all that important to the plot, but give us a much better idea of how they interact. In a movie that puts so much focus on parent-child relationships, this is something that needed to be handled well, and it was.

Although the absence of Ryan Coogler doesn't go unnoticed, Creed II is a more than worthy successor to the original movie. It gives closure to some of the most famous story lines in past Rocky movies in a way that doesn't feel fake or forced, and instead feels like a natural progression of boxing history. What the movie likes in some of its style and fight scenes, it makes up for in important dramatic and character moments that further the arcs of the main three characters of this series. Rocky fans and casual movie goers alike won't be able to resist moving to the edge of their seats when Drago and Creed are in the ring together, and that just proves Caple Jr. and the cast have done their jobs well.

Jon Favreau's Live-Action Remake of 'The Lion King' Gets Its First Nostalgia Filled Trailer

Disney's live-action remakes of their most popular animated movies have garnered mixed reactions from fans and audiences. But most people will agree Jon Favreau's take on The Jungle Book a few years ago was one of the best adaptions they've seen yet, so it makes sense that this is the man tackling one of the company's most iconic stories. With trailer to Tim Burton's Dumbo and Guy Ritchie's Aladdin already having made their way online, it was only a matter of time before we got our first look at Lion King. What better time then Thanksgiving to bring audiences back with the narration of James Earl Jones' Mufasa over some very familiar shots, and of course the Circle of Life playing in the background. 

Below is the first trailer for The Lion King:

The trailer is actually very similar to the one shown for the 1994 animated movie, with almost exact recreations of some of those shots. Characters we see are Rafiki, a young Simba, and an ending shot of Mufasa. We see a glimpse of iconic scenes such as when Simba is held up at pride rock, the stampede that ultimately takes his father's life, and his conversation with the ghost of Mufasa. We see just enough to get us excited a pay homage to the original movie, but without hearing the voices of any of the new cast members or seeing how their characters will look.

It'll be very interesting to see Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner's Pumbaa and Timon, as well as John Oliver's Zazu, Chiwetel Ejiofor's Scar, and of course Donald Glover's adult Simba. We can probably expect to see more of them as more footage and trailers make their way online as we near the movies summer release date. A lot of these cast members have the tough task of replacing very iconic and recent portrayals of these characters, so it makes sense we only year Jones voice in the trailer which fans are already used to. 

So far Favreau's take on the Lion King seems to be a pretty by the books remake of the original, with a lot of the same key plot points taking place. Like with Jungle Book though we can probably expect some slight changes, including the addition of new songs. The original songs of the film are all extremely well known, but with talented musicians like Beyonce and Donald Glover on board and Hans Zimmer returning to work on the score, I'm sure we can expect some impressive additions to the Lion King catalogue.

'Sopranos' Prequel 'The Many Saints of Newark' Casts Alessandro Navoli As Dickie Moltisanti

Fans of the HBO series The Sopranos thought we'd seen the last of David Chase's world after the screen went black during the series finale years ago. Unfortunately, five years ago we lost Tony Soprano himself James Gandolfini, which seemed to have put any idea of continuing the series to bed. Instead, director Alan Taylor has been brought on board to adapt a prequel film to the show written by Chase. The series will show how the crime family came to be, and show many of the predecessors to the guys like Tony, Silvio, Paulie, and Christopher. Pretty much everything about the show has been kept tightly under wraps, but we now know at least one cast member he has joined in a key leading role.

Actor Alessandro Navoli best known for his work in movies like Face/Off, Selma, American Hustle, and The Wizard of Lies will star in the movie. Navoli will be playing the father of Christopher Moltisanti, who fans will remember was a key character and Tony Soprano's nephew in the show played by Michael Impereoli. Christopher's father Dickie has been mentioned several times in the show, as was killed off camera prior to the events of the series. Its believed he was killed by a police officer who Christopher eventually gets revenge on in Season 4. 

Much in the same way as The Godfather: Part 2 told the story of a young Vito Corleone and how he rose to power and started his crime family, The Many Saints of Newark will hopefully give fans that same insight into the DiMeo family. Its expected characters such as Tony's mother, father, and Uncle Jun will all be a part of the movie but have yet to be cast. There's also been rumors the child versions of Tony and his crew will make in appearance, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Not much is known about the film's plot other then the fact that it takes place in the 1960s and will focus on tensions and riots between African-Americans and Italian in the Newark, New Jersey area at the time. In the coming months it'll be interesting to see who else joins Navoli on the project, and who will play the rumored roles of young Tony, Uncle Jun, Johnny Soprano, and Dickie's father Aldo Molstisanti.

Spidey Trades In Blue For Black In Set Photos From 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' Revealing Another New Suit

Spider-Man: Far From Home has officially wrapped shooting this past week, but fans were still able to get some last minute photos of what appears to be yet another new suit. It feels like almost every set photo we've seen from this movie has been of a new variation of the iconic costume that the wall-crawler will be wearing, but this one feels the most definite. The suit in the set photos seems to be an upgrade from the Stark suit given to Peter Parker in Civil War, but with the clear difference being the new color scheme. We have our first on screen version of Spider-Man to wear a black and red suit, which the character has worn in the comics. We also see a white symbol in the back which surely has taken inspiration from the Spider-Man: PS4 suit.

With all these set photos a videos scattered across the internet, Marvel decided to just have Tom Holland officially show off the new suit on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night:

Now as I said above, the suit has already drawn comparisons to certain suits from the comics with the same colors. Fans will remember the recent Superior Spider-Man storyline that saw Doc Ock become Spider-Man featured a very similar looking suit. There's been mixed reaction to the departure from the traditional blue and red scheme, but ultimately I feel it gives a more mature and fresh look to the character. We still don't know if Tony Stark or possibly S.H.I.E.L.D. have provided Parker with this suit, or if he made it on his own like he does in the comics. Its worth noting the suit also resemble a S.H.I.E.L.D. Spider-Man suit recently shown in the comics, so this could be a hit they've provided him with this one as well.

So far we know that the original Homecoming suit will indeed show up in the film, most likely at the beginning. We've also seen set photos of the "Stealth suit" that looks similar to the Spider-Man Noir look from the comics, and also has a S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on it. That suit will be worn at some point when Mysterio faces off against Spider-Man as we can tell from the set photos, so its likely he was given that suit for the specific situation. We know most of the movie will be taking place on Peter Parker's class trip to Europe, but these recent set photos with Zendaya take place in Manhattan at Union Station. It's likely this scene will take place later in the movie once Peter has returned home, and that's probably when we'll be seeing the new suit make its debut.

Story wise, there isn't much else we can decipher from these set photos other then that Michelle is swinging through the city with Spider-Man. Its been made apparent since the first movie that Michelle might be this universe's version of Mary Jane, and that would mean at some point she becomes romantically involved with Peter. While she seemed to have been catching on to Peter keeping some kind of secret in Homecoming, its hard to tell if in this scene she already knows he's the one behind the mask. Spider-Man might just be saving her from some kind of danger, but it could also be a romantic web swinging between Michelle and Peter like we saw in the Raimi movies.

DC Have Tapped Former Marvel Director James Gunn To Write And Possibly Direct 'Suicide Squad 2'

I have to admit, few things surprise me anymore when it comes to comic book movie news. But this right here I can honestly say I didn't see coming. After being controversially fired by DC and Marvel Studios following the unearthing of tweets made before his days as a blockbuster director, James Gunn was to have no involvement with the already planned Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Actors from the director's acclaimed film series and fans alike voiced there displeasure with this decision, but it was ultimately made clear Disney had no intention of rehiring him. With Gunn seemingly out of a job, comic book fans joked DC could afford to take the gamble and hire him. Yet none of us actually thought they'd do it, with Gunn now apparently involved with the development of the Suicide Squad sequel.

The news comes courtesy of The Wrap who report that Gunn will not only be writing the script for the movie, but is also in talks to direct it. Previously Gavin O'Connor (Warrior) was believed to be on board to helm the project, taking the reins from David Ayer (Fury). Ayer of course has voiced his problems with the first film and how it was received critically, and how the original cut had been modified through the the heavy involvement of Warner Brothers. This included the controversial ending, depiction and overall screen time of Jared Leto's Joker, and more tonal issues that just created another roadblock for the DC film universe.

With all the controversy aside, Gunn is of course an extremely talented and creative director credited with making the MCU's cosmic universe what it is today. Gunn took a group of relatively unknown comic book characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy and made them into household names, with a creative and fun approach to the soundtrack and design of the world, as well as a great dynamic between the group of actors he cast. This in many ways was what DC was trying to replicate with the first Suicide Squad movie, so it only seems right to get the guy whose already proven he can do it correctly.

Reports have even suggested the Gunn's adaption of Suicide Squad may be a reboot, with roles possibly recast or a new group of characters being introduced. The first movie did in fact have some big names on board including Will Smith and Margot Robbie, so I'm not sure DC would be willing to give them up especially considering what they could do with a script written by Gunn. Smith and Robbie were both considered standouts of the first movie and have expressed interest in reprising their roles, and its already been suggested we would be seeing roster changes in the sequel. Only time will tell what approach Gunn decides to take, but it'll apparently be a stark departure from what O'Connor originally had planned.
