Tye Sheridan has become a young actor to look out for in recent years, with films such as Mud and Joe to his credit. The actor has proven himself capable of holding his own opposite big name actors such as Brad Pitt and Nicolas Cage, and has recently landed his first big market role as Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse. Now Sheridan has landed yet another huge part as the lead character of Wade Watts in Steven Spielberg's adaption of the sci-fi novel Ready Player One.
Since its release back in 2011, the Ernest Cline novel Ready Player One has garnered a lot of interest from Hollywood. Several directors attached to the project at some point, with Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan having thought to be the favorite to helm the film. The gig instead landed in the hands of Steven Spielberg himself, which seems fitting considering the amount of 80s references in the book, some of which make mention of Spielberg's classics of the time period.
The book follows a virtual reality video game known as OASIS, whose creator James Halliday recently passed away and planted several easter eggs throughout the game (Which are full of 80s pop culture references). The main character of Wade Watts is one of several gamers who is embarking on the journey as his avatar Parzival to find the prize and win the fortune of the game's creator before the wrong person does. Sheridan will more than likely be playing the duel role of both Watts and Parzival, and seems like a fitting choice for the part. Sheridan fits the typical Spielberg mold of relatively unknown actors on the come-up who are younger than twenty years old.
Aside from being based on an acclaimed and successful book, Ready Player One already has a lot going for it. The film recently moved from its original release date of December 2017 to March 2018 after Star Wars: Episode 8 moved to the exact same day Ready Player One had been scheduled for. Sheridan joins an already impressive cast with the likes of Olivia Cooke (Me Earl and the Dying Girl) as Art3mis, and Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Nolan Sorrento. With all these talented actors being led by a legend such as Spielberg, its hard to get excited for this film.

Exactly one month from tomorrow, fans will finally get see two of the world's most popular superheroes go head to head in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. While the film's marketing has gone into full effect, certain mysteries about the movie still remain unknown. There have all been several rumors about how it will connect to the upcoming Justice League films, but we know little about those movies aside from who will direct (Zack Snyder) and who will be playing a majority of the heroes. But a new picture of Snyder and Aquaman actor Jason Momoa gives us our first look at some of the costumes that will be worn in the film.
Snyder has a tendency to tease his fans with obscure peaks of his characters on his Twitteraccount, so this image doesn't come as a huge surprise. One must assume Momoa and Snyder knew that the costumes could be seen in the background of the photo and posted the picture knowingly, with the intention of increasing excitement for the Justice League film. The film itself starts filming in April, so its understandable that the costumes have already been prepared, and Momoa and Snyder are both giving them a look.

Several items can be seen in the photo including a Batman cowl that may be different from the one he will wear in Dawn of Justice, and possible concept art of Aquaman's wife Mera (Played by Amber Heard) towards the bottom left. The first costume we see is a mysterious black suit, which may be the beginning stages of a Green Lantern suit (Possibly to be worn by Dan Amboyer?). The suit also bares a striking resemblance to the one worn by Aquaman's villain Black Manta, who has yet to be cast as far as we know.
The other two suits featured in the picture are much more obvious to point out, with one of them being Momoa's own Aquaman suit. While Snyder had already released a picture of Momoa's Aquaman last year, that photo only gave us a look at the upper half of the character. The suit in the picture seems to be much more complete and very reminiscent of the one in the comics. But of course, probably the most intriguing part of the picture is the inclusion of the Flash suit Ezra Miller will be wearing. It looks a lot like what we've seen in concept art, and it also has a much more armored look than what we're used to seeing on the CW TV show or in the comics.

Within the chaos of all of the superhero movies coming our way in 2016, Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange movie has been staying very quite on the marketing front. While fans of the character and of star Benedict Cumberbatch are very excited to see him come to the big screen, the film has been staying relatively under the radar so far. There still hasn't been a trailer or any footage shown, but thanks to some new set photos we now have a better idea of what Cumberbatch will look like in full costume as the Sorcerer Supreme.
These set photos may not give us much to go by plot wise, but they do give us a better idea of the look director Scott Derrickson (Sinister) is going for with the character. The design seems almost identical to that of the comics, right down to the red cape and collar, and gives off an ancient vibe. Cumberbatch himself also seems to definitely look the park, rocking the grey temples in his hair and the goatee the character is famous for. Below are the set photos:
Apparently this scene also includes two of the movie's most important supporting characters which are Baron Mordo played by Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), and Wong play by Benedict Wong (The Martian). The scene also apparently takes place in New York City, which may of may not be the main setting of the film. We still have yet to find out who the film's villain is (Possibly Mordo?), or see set photos Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One or Rachel McAdam's as Strange's love interest. It should be a matter of weeks before pictures of them surface online as well.

The idea of Rated R superhero movies used to be considered a death sentence, with studio's rarely taking that risk. Now with the success of Fox's Deadpool, the door has been opened for many darker superheroes to finally be adapted to the big screen, and no have their material limited to a PG-13 rated. Foxthemselves have a character who has been more than deserving of a darker adaption, with his third outing possibly finally being the first R adaption of the Wolverine to hit the big screen. There's also a chance this the film may be based on the famed 'Old Man Logan' comic book storyline, which is something fans have been waiting anxiously for.
Now is as good a time as any for Fox to give an R-Rated Old Man Logan movie a shot. With Marvel Studios finally adapting the famous Civil War storyline to the big screen, the chances of getting an Old Man Logan adaption have seemed all the more likely. Thats also not to mention the fact that this is supposedly going to be Hugh Jackman's last turn as Wolverine, and it seems like a fitting conclusion for the character.
The rumor of the third film being R-Rated comes from a picture taken at Fox event last weekend, which lists the anticipated rating for the movie as R. Both Jackman and director James Mangold have both expressed their interest in making an R film for Wolverine, with 2013's The Wolverine having originally been planned that way. Fox has yet to confirm if this picture is real or if the rating is official, but given the studio's success with Deadpool and the director and actor's interest in having it that way, it seems very likely.
Den of Geek are the ones reporting that the movie will in fact be based on the well known storyline, which pretty much requires an R rating to be adapted correctly. Much like the problem Marvel had to face with Civil War, Old Man Logan features many characters such as an older Hulk, Hawkeye, and Red Skull that Fox does not own the rights too. I'm sure Mangold will find a way to work around this, most likely substituting some of these characters with those already in the X-Menuniverse, or cutting their parts completely.

With the first comic book movie of the year out in theaters already, its safe to say that this year's packed superhero movie season is upon us. 2016 is giving us fans tons of films on both the Marvel and DC front, most notably the heavily marketed showdowns of next month's Batman v. Superman, and May's Captain America: Civil War. After an exciting Super Bowl TV spot, Marvel is making sure that they are getting audiences hyped about their upcoming film, and the marketing campaign shows no signs of lighting up with this all new magazine cover.
The cover was released by Empire Magazine, and may look very familiar to many comic book fans. A very similar cover was used for Civil War #7, which became one of the most iconic images of the entire storyline. It of course features Captain America shielding himself from Iron Man as the two come face to face on the battle field. Much like it did when it was used in the comics, this image really show the severity of the situations and how intense things will become between the heroes during this conflict.
We've known for some time that directors Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: Winter Soldier) would not be directly adapting the Civil War storyline, but this image serves as a reminder that we'll still see some of the iconic moments in there. From what we've heard so far, this version of Civil War will be a much more contained conflict than the all out Marvel universe war we saw in the comics. While that may be different, it seems to motivations and tension between Cap and Iron Man will still be just as strong as it was in that storyline.
The other important tidbit of Civil War news that has made its way online is the possible inclusion of Hulk in the film. For now the only heroes we knew for a fact would be featured were Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Antman (Possibly as Giantman), Falcon, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Vision, and Spider-Man. There has been no mention of Hulk in any promotional material, and Mark Ruffalo has never spoken about having a part in the film. As far as we know, the character's next appearance will be in Thor: Ragnarok. Yet in an interview with BBC Radio 1, actor Anthony Mackie (Falcon) name dropped Ruffalo as one of his costars in Civil War. This has led many to believe that he may have just let a big secret slip, and either Bruce Banner or Hulk himself will be making an appearance in the film.

This one has been a long time coming. After years of development hell, and a horribly inaccurate appearance on the big screen, the merc with a mouth has finally gotten his time to shine. It may have taken some leaked footage and pressure from fans to get this movie off the ground, but it was definitely worth it. Besides, desperate times call for desperate measures, even in Hollywood. Fans of Deadpool will be pleased to know that this R-rated comedy doesn't hold back; and more importantly, pays much overdo service to the fans. Equipped with fourth wall breaking, cursing galore, and its fair share of references, Tim Miller's Deadpool provides fans with everything it should have and needed to do.
Set in the X-Men universe, Deadpool follows the story of former mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and his life as crude anti-hero. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Wilson seeks desperate measures to save his own life. The result of these measures leaves him with mutant powers, as well as a horribly mutilated face at the hands of fellow mutant Ajax (Ed Skrein). The now masked and super powered Wilson seeks revenge on Ajax and co. for ruining his life, and does so in the most humorous and violent ways possible.
My main concern going into this film was that its sense of humor and references would only appeal to a select group of people, specifically comic book and Deadpool fans. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that the movies humor was handled in a way that could be enjoyed by everyone for the most part, and much credit goes to writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) for pulling off that difficult feat. That being said, the movies brand of humor still isn't for everyone, and some of the references may go way over people's heads. I thought the references to the X-Men universe, Green Lantern, and the characters portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine were particularly the most clever.
While the writers and director Tim Miller certainly deserve a lot of the credit for keeping Deadpool's personality and humor intact and accurate to the comics, Ryan Reynolds also deserves recognition. Reynolds take on Wade Wilson in this film is literally right off the pages of the comics, and its almost impossible to think of any one else playing this part. Reynolds does a fantastic job at the fourth wall breaks that address the audience, along with the dirty humor Deadpool is none for, his delivery of all the character's clever one-liners, and even down to his expressions and voice tonality under the mask. Reynolds certainly gives voice actor Nolan North a run for his money as THE voice of Deadpool for now on, and its one of the best superhero casting choices made in the last few years.
The rest of the films cast sort of takes a back seat to Reynolds and Deadpool's huge personality, which was expected from the get-go. There are some characters I felt were slightly underused including Gina Carona's Angel Dust, Leslie Uggam's Blind Al, and to a certain extent Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand). Some of the great surprises of the film's cast are T.J. Miller's Weasel, who gets some great scenes of dialogue opposite Reynolds, and of course Morena Baccarin's Vanessa, who isn't your by the numbers superhero love interest (Which is fitting for someone like Deadpool).
Ed Skrein's Ajax ends up being a pretty basic superhero villain, but he does a great job at truly making you hate his character and makes you understand Deadpool's motivation to want to kick his ass. But for me the real surprise performance of this film was the now finally comic book accurate Colossus voiced by Stefan Kapičić, who truly provides a great contrast to the rude and brash personality of Reynold's Deadpool. He gets some great lines and scenes, as well as some hilarious moments of his judgement of Wilson's morals and means for handling situations.
The music of the film is also certainly worth noting as well, and is a pleasant fresh approach to the typical superhero film score. Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road) proves that he's one of the best new composers in the business, and he goes for a very different sounding soundtrack that matches the fun of the Deadpool character, and gives the movie an even more upbeat and unique tone. There's also a great inclusion of other well known songs throughout the film, that are incorporated perfectly and help increase the hilarity of certain scenes rather than just being thrown in there for the hell of it. And props to the Deadpool rap, which even included sound bites of Reynolds' voice and was also cleverly incorporated in the film.
The costume and set design also deserves some attention here, as Deadpool himself may have one of the most comic book accurate superhero suits seen on screen (And certainly in the X-Men universe). The inclusion of the animated CGI to show Deadpool's expressions also was a subtle yet very important addition that helped make Reynolds' portrayal as close to the comics as possible. The CGI for Colossus and classic suit designs for him and Negasonic Teenage Warhead are also very well made and fitting for the film. For being on such a small budget, the film impresses effects and cinematography wise, with only a couple of scenes here and there looking a little dodgy. The action scenes are also of note, as they're all very well filmed and orchestrated to the level of Marvel's recent Daredevil series.
Despite reluctance from the studio and some concerned fans, Deadpool ends up being everything a movie based on this character should be. Its very self aware and doesn't hold back on its humor, and is written in an extremely witty and referential manner. While the plot is a little played out, and some references may only appeal to a certain audience of people, the movie is impressive in every other aspect. Reynolds does the character (And his career) justice with an excellent and hilarious performance, and you can't help but wonder how much crazier things will get in the film's confirmed sequel. First time director Tim Miller also solidifies himself along with writers Reese and Wernick as guys to look out for in coming years, and they provide us with a breathe of fresh air from the standard comic book movies we've become accustomed to.

Its hard to believe that it has already been almost a year and half since the Guardians of the Galaxy caught audiences by surprise and captured our hearts. Arguably one of the funnest comic book movies of the last few years, Guardians was a breath of fresh air from the gritty Dark Knight-esque films Hollywood had become accustomed to. Well fans of the first film and the gang of space outcasts won't have to wait much longer, as the film's 2017 sequel has just started production.
Marvel Studios and director James Gunn made the announcement over at their website yesterday. As was expected, the original core group of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and fan favorite Groot (Vin Diesel) will all be returning for Volume 2. Other surprise returns include Michael Rooker's Yondu and Karen Gillan's Nebula, who both served more villainous roles in the first film.
Now the real interesting part of the announcement is the mention of the new cast additions. These additions include Kurt Russell (Hateful Eight), Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (Everest), and Chris Sullivan (The Drop). While its unknown just who these actors are playing yet, several rumors suggest that Kurt Russell will in fact be playing the role of Star-Lord's mysterious father. It's also been rumored Pom Klementieff will be playing the part of Mantis, a well known member of the Guardians in the comics. All of this remains to be seen though, so it should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
Fans will also take note of the names from the original film that were excluded in this cast announcement, including those of Nova Corps. members played by John C. Reilly and Glenn Close, along with Benecio Del Toro's Collector. There's also the significant exclusion of Josh Brolin as Thanos, who director James Gunn has confirmed won't be appearing in the film. This may come as a big surprise to fans, but most will recall that the character played a very small role in the first film. Marvel is most likely saving the character's next appearance for the big two part Infinity War films.

With the recent success of Fox's Deadpool giving sudden attention to darker and edgier comic book properties, there was no better time for Marvel to release their trailer for the second season of Daredevil. As many fans know by now, the second season is taking a note from this year's trend of having two superheroes team up against each other (See Batman v. Superman and Civil War), in this case being our titular hero and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal). Not only does this trailer give us our first look a Frank Castle, but also a peak at fan favorite Elektra (Élodie Yung).

Marvel has made it pretty clear that they aren't afraid to go dark with their Netflix shows, and this trailer reiterates that even more. The success of the show's first season was able to prove to many the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a darker side, and they've made it just as marketable as their family friendly films. While Jessica Jones didn't fare as well as Daredevil did ratings wise, it too was generally well received by viewers and fans alike. The choice to go with Punisher as the next season's villain is certainly and intriguing one, and is a decision that definitely keep people interested in the next season (If they weren't already).
The inclusion of Frank Castle will give the character a great introduction to the MCU, without giving him his own solo series or film just yet. Judging by the trailer, it seems that the dynamic between Castle and Murdock will be a major point of emphasis. Rather than going with a clear cut villain such as last season's Kingpin; or a character like Bullseye from the comics, Punisher sees himself as doing good and seeking vengeance for his dead family. Yung's Elektra will also most likely serve as a similar figure to Matt, as someone whose methods he won't exactly be seeing eye to eye with.
There's still a lot in the air about what could happen this season, including what other characters may be showing up that we don't know about yet (Fingers crossed for Bullseye), or how the show will connect to eventual Defenders team up. There's always the possibility of MCU characters showing up including Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, or even fellow New Yorker Spider-Man (Now played by Tom Holland). The showrunners are probably keeping much more surprises in store for fans that we won't be seeing until the show hits March 18th.
