Can Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski and outstanding actor Johnny Depp save Nickelodeon movies? But even if Rango was Nickelodeon's best film, can it compare to Dreamworks and Pixar films?
Soon he discovers the town has been lacking water supply, and he decides to get to the bottom of it.
He is welcomed as the last hope the town has been waiting for, new Sheriff Rango is forced to play his new role to the hilt… until, in a blaze of action packed situations and encounters with outrageous characters, Rango starts to become the hero he once only pretended to be.
I must say, Rango wasn't the best animated feature I've seen, at all. But I got more laughs than I expected, and surprisingly enjoyed it. Now like most westerns, the movie can get very boring at times, but what else do you expect from a nerdy lizard abandoned in the dessert.
I loved Depp in his role, and while it's not one of his best performances I thing he was the number ingredient that brought this film together. Isla Fisher who did the voice of Rango's love interest Ms. Beans, did a pretty decent job, but was out done by Depp. I actually found Abigail Breslin's character (Who is meant to be a cute little girl who admires Rango) annoying and pointless to the plot. You can hardly recognize actors like Alfred Molina or Ned Beatty's voice (Because with their Mexican accents, they all sound like Antonio Banderas).
The special effects are actually in my own opinion, ground breaking, and were just so precise that they made Pixar and Dreamwork's characters look like homemade puppets. There's even a cameo by a world famous western star (Who I won't reveal), and the details in his face are so accurate (From his wrinkles to his world famous clothing) it's like it's not even animated.
The villains and fight scenes are very entertaining, but a bit over done and cliche. And the film all together is very predictable, and in the end doesn't really hold any surprises or shockers and just makes you feel like you've seen it all before, unlike their competition at Pixar and Dreamworks.
Really Rango is a fun film to see with your family (And mostly kids), and while there's funny scenes and kicks for adults, and it's indeed Nickelodeon's best film yet, it really didn't break and boundaries or have something very memorable about it to go up against some of the most recent critically acclaimed animated films.
PS: This movie will make you very thirsty due to all it's talk about water
