Pixar's Cars 2 hits theaters tommorow, but unfortanetly many critics are calling it the down point for Pixar. But Pixar fans should not fear, because Pixar is stiring away from sequels, and is instead going for their own creative fairly tail. Is this really Pixar's downfall, or is there hope?
Brave will follows a Scottish princess named Merida (Kelly Macdonald) who also just happens to be a skilled warrior, and breaks the law of her kingdom. She then most go on a quest to fin the Wise Woman (Julie Walters) who is her only hope of settling things.
Director Mark Andrews has given some insight as to what to expect from Brave:
“What we want to get across is that this story has some darker elements. Not to frighten off our Pixar fans, we’ll still have all the comedy and the great characters. But we get a little bit more intense here.”
Along with the more "intense" story of Brave, there's also some strange, yet interesting caharacters designs that have been released, whihc show Merida, the Wise Woman, Quenn Elinor (Emma Thompson), and Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson):
And of course the first official poster:
I can't help but draw similarities to DreamWork's How to Train a Dragon, with it's Scottish background, and even a common cast member (Craig Ferguson). With all of the sequels Pixar has under their belt recently, including Cars 2, and the Monsters Inc. prequel Monster University, fans are beginning to worry about the original films that Pixar has given a back seat to, but hopefully Brave pulls through, and turns out to be a Pixar classic.
What do you think of Brave? Does it sound like it has potential?
