'Star Wars: Episode VII' Star Daisy Ridley Up To Play Lara Croft In The New 'Tomb Raider' Reboot

As most of us could've predicted, the success of The Force Awakens has launched the stardoms of both John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. The two went from relatively unknown actors to household names over night, and have already gathered huge followings by Star Wars fans. So it was only a matter of time before the two were offered big roles of their own in other franchises, and that opportunity has just come up for Ridley. The actress is reportedly being looked at to play the lead of Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider series, a role previously played by Angelina Jolie. 

We have heard a number of names suggested by fans for the role of Croft, with most of them being older than Ridley. Most recently Lauren Cohan of Walking Dead fame has become an increasing fan favorite for the role. But having said that, it seems the producers of the upcoming film would really like to see Ridley take the lead. Deadline suggests that although the are considering several other actresses for the role, Ridley is thought to be the favorite amongst many of the producers despite not having been approached for the part yet. 

Ridley certainly fits the mold director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is looking for, which is a contrast from Jolie's older version of the character. Its been suggested that the director will be taking a lot of inspiration from the recent successful video game reboot of Tomb Raider, which also followed a younger less sexualized version of Croft's character. Is this is really the version of the character Uthaug is looking to adapt, Ridley seems like a very good fit for the part.

The only problem with casting Ridley is of course the fact that the actress has another massive franchise currently on her hands. With Episode 8 in production and Episode 9 on the way shortly after, Ridley is sure to have a very busy shooting schedule. If Uthaug is hoping for the new Tomb Raider reboot to launch a series of it's own, it will be very difficult for Ridley to be leading to franchises at once. Of course we've seen it work before such as with Jennifer Lawrence balancing The Hunger Games and X-Men franchises, so its always possible Ridley can do the same.

One Direction Star Harry Styles And Newcomer Fionn Whitehead Eyed For Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk'

After his amazing work on films such as The Dark Knight trilogy, The Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar, Christopher Nolan has become a director to look out for in Hollywood. The director is known for many things, most notably the very original and thought provoking ideas his films revolve around. That being said, his upcoming film Dunkirk will be stepping out of the mold, as it will be the first historical film Nolan directs following event that occurred during World War II. The movie already has quite the impressive cast may be adding two much younger stars, one of which is relatively unknown, while the other is a world renowned music star. 

Thats right, you read that headline right. According to Deadline, Christopher Nolan is looking to cast One Direction frontman Harry Styles in Dunkirk. Nolan has a tendency to go for big names for his leading roles, having landed Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey and Leonardo DiCaprio for his past films. But while the director has made it clear he wants to unknowns for the film's main leads, he is certainly looking to surround them with a big name supporting cast. Styles has most likely been offered the role of a British soldier in the film, and is not being looked at for the film's lead.

The idea of Styles branching into acting will come as a surprise to many, especially in a film as serious and top-tier as Dunkirk. Styles would be joining an impressive cast of proven film stars including Oscar winner Mark Rylance (Bride of Spies), Tom Hardy (The Revenant), and Kenneth Branagh (Much Ado About Nothing), which may be a bit intimidating for someone with no acting experience. Having said that, it would certainly be an impressive first film to have under his belt, and the timing is perfect considering One Direction is currently on break. We've seen band stars crossover into the film industry in the past with the likes of Justin Timberlake, so its possible Styles could replicate that kind of success. 

As for the film's lead, it has been widely reported that Nolan has two leading parts for the film and is looking for unknown young actors. One of these leads could now belong to unknown actor Fionn Whitehead, he only has one acting job to his credit on British mini-series Him. The Wrap has dropped the news the Nolan wants Whitehead for the part, although it is still unknown whether he has already been cast or not.

Second Trailer Drops For 'Captain America: Civil War' Giving Us Our First Look At The New Spider-Man

That sound you hear right now is the sound of millions of Spider-Man fans losing their minds over this new Civil War trailer. That's right ladies and gentlemen, not only did we get a new action packed trailer for Captain America: Civil War, but we also got our first look at Marvel Studios' version of the famous webhead. Marvel sure knows how to hype up their fans, as the recent trailer is sure to get those who were skeptical about the movie and our new version of Spidey on board. The trailer also gives us great looks at several of the film's other key players, but the wallcrawler certainly steals the show.

Below is the second trailer for Captain America: Civil War:

Alright so before we get to all the Spider-Man craziness, its worth noticing everything else included in the trailer. Specifically we now have a much better idea of the film's story and whose side each hero will be fighting for. There are some great action shots including Scarlet Witch going at it with Vision, War Machine taking a hit, and Antman riding on Hawkeye's arrow as he does in the comics. We also get a better idea of how intense this "war" really will be despite its smaller scale, and fans can be assured that Steve Rogers and Tony Stark certainly aren't going to be holding back in combat. Below is a new poster the was also released for the film, showing the two teams squaring off (Minus Spidey).

One of the main hightlights of the trailer is the much better look at Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther. Up until this point we have only really seen him in quick shots and concept art, but we get to see him in action against Winter Soldier throughout this trailer. The suit he's sporting seems very comic book accurate, yet has a slightly more modern and high tech look to it. We also get our first footage of Boseman out of the Panther suit as the Prince of Wakanda himself T'Challa.

But of course, the main scene stealer of this trailer is in fact the appearance of Tom Holland's Spider-Man at the end of the suit. The character is definitely sporting a very classic Alex Ross/John Romita type look which is noticeable in the smaller emblem and narrower eyes. The suit is a striking contrast from the past versions we have seen, as the webbing is much less pronounced and the character's eyes will in fact move similar to Deadpool's. We also now know that the character will in fact be on team Iron Man, but he could still possibly switch at some point in the film.

'Spider-Man' And "Whiplash' Actor J.K. Simmons Set To Play The New Commissioner Gordon

Late yesterday afternoon, some very surprising news hit the web in regards to Zack Snyder's Justice League: Part One. With Batman v. Superman now only a few weeks away, several details from the film have been making their way online. One such detail is the mention of the famous Batman ally Commissioner Gordon being mentioned in the film, despite not making an appearance. Well now we know who will be portraying the Gotham commissioner in future DC films, and it's none other than Spider-Man's former boss J. Jonah Jameson himself: J.K. Simmons. 

Simmons comes as a surprising choice because of just that, his iconic portrayal of the Marvel character. Simmons' portrayal of Jameson in the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy has been a fan favorite, and has even been heralded as one of the most accurate casting choices of any comic book movie. Simmons has expressed interest in returning as the character in the past, first for The Amazing Spider-Man series, and most recently for the Marvel Studios' reboot. It seems that option may be out the window now though, with the actor taking his talents to rival company DC.

As I stated early, there have been several rumors about Jim Gordon's character in the upcoming Batman v. Superman film and whether he would be making an appearance. Gary Oldman's version of the character served a very pivotal role in The Dark Knight trilogy, but it was unknown if this new incarnation of the character would be as vital. There had also been rumors that Jim Gordon's daughter Barbara Gordon would be played by Jena Malone in Batman v. Superman, but those rumors have since been denied by director Zack Snyder (As well as her character being cut from the movie).

Regardless of the fact that we won't be seeing the character until Justice League: Part One, the casting of Simmons is overall a very exciting addition for the DC film universe. Simmons is a very talented actor who recently one an Oscar for his intense performance in the film Whiplash, and is an impressive and proven actor for the DC film universe to bring on board. It'll be interesting to see how the character fits into the story of the Justice League film, and whether he will be returning for the proposed Batman solo film to be directed by Ben Affleck.

Netflix Renews 'Fuller House' For A Second Season Set To Premiere At This Time Next Year

As a huge fan of the original Full House TV show on reruns when I was younger, I couldn't believe an actual spin-off was in the works. After years of rumored TV reunions and movies I had come to the conclusion that we just wouldn't be seeing the Tanners back at the San Francisco home ever again. Well things took a surprising and pleasant turn when Netflix decided to take a chance on a spinoff show titled Fuller House that would follow DJ Tanner and her kids, along with their aunt Stephanie and Kimmy Gibbler moving in. Now fans of the show will get to see even more adventures of the family, as the series has been picked up for a second season. 

The news doesn't come as much of a surprise considering how much marketing and popularity has come out of bringing back Full House in the form of Fuller House. The show itself hasn't been met very well by critics, but fans have been very open in voicing their satisfaction with the show. There was concern that because the show wasn't going to be airing on a regular TV network like Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, it wouldn't reach the popularity of the original.

That doesn't seem to be the case though as Netflix has made a strong effort to market the show prior to its release, and the cast members have also been making the rounds promoting the show on talk shows. It seems that all that work paid off in the long run, as most Full House fans came back to watch Fuller House and ultimately enjoyed the show enough to warrant a second season.

Of course the ideal scenario for creator Jeff Franklin and for the cast would be to have this spin-off show last as long as the original did (Eight seasons). Throughout Full House we were able to watch Danny Tanner's children DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle grow up before our eyes, and that is probably what they hope to do with the new cast of kids. Fans can expect for the next season of Fuller House to hit Netflix by this time next year, and will hopefully see most of the original cast returning as well (Most likely minus Mary Kate and Ashley, again).

Marvel And Netflix Finally Find Their 'Iron Fist' In The Form of 'Game of Thrones' Actor Finn Jones

British actors playing American superheroes has become a recent trend in Hollywood, with the likes of Superman, our last two Spider-Mans, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, and more all being played by actor from across the pond. Now you can add Marvel's Iron Fist aka Danny Rand to that list, as English actor Finn Jones of Game of Thrones fame has landed the lead role in the upcoming Netflix series. Jones will join an already impressive cast of Marvel/Netflix superheroes which already includes Mike Colter's Luke Cage, Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, and Jon Bernthal's Punisher. 

The news of Jones casting originally came as a rumor from The Hashtag Show, and was later confirmed by several news outlet and eventually Marvel themselves. Jones is a relatively unknown actor who hasn't done much aside from his seventeen episode tenor on Game of Thrones as Ser Loras Tyrell. Marvel has been going for smaller name actors mainly known for their work in TV for most of their Netflix roles, so Jones certainly fits that mold pretty well. 

For a while there many fans began to question whether we would even be getting an Iron Fist series, and rumors had circulated that a show starring Jon Bernthal's Punisher would likely replace it. Most of this speculation began because we hadn't heard much from Marvel ever since they had announced the Iron Fist series, and there had been no word on who would be cast in the part. Luke Cage actor Mike Colter had hinted in the past that Marvel had already cast the role but was waiting to make an official announcement, so it is likely that the role has belonged to Jones for a while now.

There still hasn't been word on when the Iron Fist series will be making it debut on Netflix, but its likely that we could see the character introduced in the Luke Cage series set to premiere later this year. At the very least we can expect the show to hit before we get to see The Defenders series, which will be teaming up all of Marvel's Netflix heroes in one show.

Adaption Of Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' Lands Idris Elba And Matthew McConaughey

Development hell can be a dark and tedious experience for everyone involved in a film, and such has been the case for The Dark Tower. The adaption of the famed Stephen King novel has been tossed around between studios and filmmakers since 2007, and has had several big names attached to it at certain points. Now it seems the film has finally gained its footing with director Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair) at the helm, and has finally found its protagonist and antagonist. These two pivotal roles will be brought to the big screen by the likes of actors Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar) and Idris Elba (Beast of No Nation).

The trio of Elba, McConaughey, and King all confirmed the new via their Twitter accounts Tuesday. The news doesn't come as much of a surprise as the film is set to be released January 13th next year, so it was only a matter of time before we got some sort of casting news. Elba will be playing the lead role of 'The Gunslinger' Roland Deschain who is described as a character very similar to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The character is tasked with finding The Dark Tower and using its power before it ends up in the wrong hands.

The role of Roland is of course the most pivotal of the Dark Tower series, so Elba's casting should come as a relief to fans. Javier Bardem has been attached to the role a few years back, but that was when Dark Tower was being looked at as a possible HBO series. Elba has recently made a big splash in the film industry after gaining a reputation for his work on the TV series Luther. Has recent successes have included his role as Heimdall in the Thor series, his role in 2013's Pacific Rim, and his recently acclaimed part in the film Beasts of No Nation.

King and Arcel also managed to land a huge name in Matthew McConaughey in the role of the series' main villain 'The Man in Black' aka Walter Padick who goes by many aliases throughout the books. McConaughey himself is of course a very impressive name to add to the film's cast, coming off his Oscar win just two years ago for his performance in Dallas Buyer's Club.  He has also had recent success in films such as Wolf of Wallstreet and Interstellar, as well as a part in HBO's True Detective.
