Tom Cavanagh Set To Return For Season 3 Of 'The Flash', But Which Character Is He Playing?

The events of last week's season finale of The Flash certainly had fans in a frenzy, and has left us with many unanswered question till next Fall. Well with as much mystery as season 3 is currently surrounded with, we finally have some word of certainty. According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Tom Cavanagh apparently will in fact be returning for the shows third season, but fans of the show know very well that his return won't be that simple. The actor is known for playing several iterations of the character Harrison Wells, but its unknown which version of the character he will be returning as in season 3. Caution to anyone who isn't caught up on The Flash, this article will contain SPOILERS.

Alright so as you all know by now if you're still reading this, the events of last week's episode have certainly had a huge effect on Barry Allen's life. Having gone back to stop the Reverse Flash from killing his mother when he was a child, Barry has seemingly undone several of the events of the led him to become The Flash. For one thing Barry will more than likely no longer have his powers, and his relationships with certain characters will be severely altered. This includes his relationships with Joe, Iris, and Wally West, and well as team Flash members Cisco and Caitlin. 

So where does Tom Cavanagh's Harrison Wells fit into all of this? Well that's a good question. For one thing the version of the character we saw all of last season was his Earth 2 counterpart, who became very close with team Flash and returned to his Earth with his daughter Jesse in the season finale. It's possible that Cavanagh may be returning as this version of the character, possibly to help Barry Allen regain his powers and restore the timeline as he might be one of the only people who remembers how things were.

The other possibility is that Cavanagh could be returning as the original Harrison Wells who in the first season of the show was killed and impersonated by Eobard Thawne. The changes Barry has made to the timeline very well could've prevented the death of the real Wells, especially if he managed to kill Thawne. Its also possible that he could go back to playing the Reverse Flash version of Wells who was actually Thawne in disguise, especially if Barry never killed him the night his mother was supposed to die. Expect to see many character who originally died return with the changes to the timeline, including more than likely Eddie Thawne, Ronnie Raymond, and Barry's father. John Wesley Shipp who plays Barry's father has already confirmed his return in season 3, but he may just be playing his Earth 3 counterpart Jay Garrick aka the original Flash.

Tom Hiddleston Reportedly In Talks To Replace Daniel Craig As The Next 'James Bond'; Sam Mendes Won't Return

In the last couple of days the James Bond community has been turned on its head and forced to face the reality that Daniel Craig is no longer 007. Its a hard pill to swallow for some fans, but others have jumped at the idea of finally getting to see a fresh face head the famous franchise. Countless people have taken to the internet to make their own suggestions which have included the likes of Idris Elba (Pacific Rim), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Apocalypse), and Henry Cavill (Batman v. Superman). Well it seems fans won't have to speculate for much longer, as Loki himself Tom Hiddleston may have already landed the coveted role.

The news comes right after rumors circulated that Daniel Craig had turned down a $100 million offer to return for two more movies. Craig recently joined the cast of Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky, seemingly making it clear that he has moved on from the Bond franchise. Funny enough, Craig's Logan Lucky costar Jamie Bell (Fantastic Four) was rumored to have undergone talks with Bond producers to possibly play the part. The news of Hiddleston's involvement seemingly debunks the Bell rumor, although its possible that the actor is also in consideration or was a runner up.

Birth.Movies.Death. are credited with bringing us the news of Hiddleston's negotiations for the part. While the website claims Hiddleston is in advanced talks for the role, the also suggest that Craig's decision to not return may not be final yet. Hiddleston may not seem like the most traditional choice, but he certainly can play the part of a suave British spy. He's currently playing a similar part on BBC's Night Manager, and has proven himself in movies such as War Horse, Crimson Peak, and of course the Thor films. 

Amongst all the talk about Daniel Craig, director Sam Mendes has expressed his desire to now hand over the Bond franchise to a new director. Mendes has directed all of Craig's films aside from Casino Royale, including Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre.  Mendes stressed his interest in moving on from the franchise in an interview with The Guardian, reiterating how Spectre was planned to be his last Bond film. Its unknown who the studio is looking at to replace Mendes and possibly team up with Hiddleston, but I would personally like to see Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service) take on the reigns.

Sony's Planned Animated 'Spider-Man' Film From '21 Jump Street' Directors May Focus On Miles Morales

Following the debut of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War this month, Tom Holland's new rendition of the character has been getting a lot of attention from both fan and regular movie goers. Excitement over the character's upcoming solo film has also been subject of a lot of talk, including recent casting additions. Yet many may have forgotten that Spider-Man: Homecoming will not be the only new Spider-Man film hitting theaters in the next few years, as Sony also has an animated movie based on the character in the works. While we haven't heard much about the film aside from who will be directing, we may now know who the story will focus on. 

The rumor comes courtesy of Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez aka El Mayimbe, whose track record hit or miss. Having said that, Gonzalez suggests that film will not be focusing on Peter Parker and will instead focus on the second character to take up the Spidey mantle; Miles Morales. The rumor certainly makes sense considering how the planned animated film is hitting in 2018, just one year after audiences will have seen Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Having the animated film focus on Morales will make things less confusing for audiences, and will also give attention to a character who may not otherwise make it to the big screen.

Gonzalez also used a quote from Sony Pictures chairman Tony Rothman who just last year said: “The film will exist independently of the projects in the live-action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing.” As I stated above, using Miles Morales and his story as the focal point of the animated film would be an easy way to keep the story being told here and the story being told in Tom Holland's new MCU Spider-Man series completely separate from each other. This will also likely mean that Peter Parker won't be making an appearance in the animated film, but it's still a possibility. In the comics Morales takes up the mantle after Peter Parker's death, but the film will likely take a different route and may or may not even acknowledge Parker's existence. 

Personally the idea of focusing the film on Miles Morales makes perfect sense to me, and it's a great fit for Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie) considering the youth of the character. Morales doesn't have nearly as much history and storylines to his name, so the directors will certainly have more of an area of freedom to work with. This would also be a smart move on Sony's part by satisfying the amount of fans who have been wanting to see Morales on the big screen as Spider-Man, but ultimately got yet another Peter Parker. As for who should voice the character, I'd love to see Donald Glover (The Martian) reprise his role as Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

Michael Keaton Back In Talks To Play The Villain In 'Spider-Man: Homecoming'; New Details Emerge

You may remember that just a few weeks ago when news broke that Robert Downey Jr. had joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming, news also broke that Michael Keaton was out of the running to play to villain in the film. Well apparently you can forget about all that, because the actor is now back in talks with Marvel Studios and is entering final negotiations to land the role. Rumors suggest that the studio had looked at several other alternatives after talks broke down with Keaton, but eventually ended up returning to the former Batman star and offered him a much more appealing deal.

So far the Jon Watts (Cop Car) directed Spider-Man reboot has put together a pretty solid cast of mostly young actors including Zendaya, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, and of course Tom Holland reprising his role of Peter Parker from Captain America: Civil War. The reboot has gained a lot of interest following the great reception of Marvel Studios' iteration of Spider-Man that won over audiences in Civil War. We had gotten much detail on who the villain of the film would be, or even what characters from the comics would be appearing in the film aside from Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Marisa Tomei's Aunt May. 

Keaton who is fresh of the success of two back to back Oscar winning films in Birdman and Spotlight is reportedly in final talks to play the film's antagonist according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Rumors have suggested the the primary villain of the movie would be Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture, who is thought to be the character Keaton is playing. Joblo claims that Keaton is in fact playing The Vulture, and the he will also be working alongside fellow Spider-Man villain The Tinkerer in the film. The site also revealed that Vulture would create his famous set of mechanical wings using Chitauri technology salvaged from the events of The Avengers. They also noted that we can expect to see some modification to the wallcrawler's suit since his Civil War debut, with the inclusion of his "web wings" he sported in the original comics.

While all sources and speculation seems to be pointing to Keaton play Vulture, there's still the possibility that he could be playing another one of Spider-Man's villains. He could be playing famed Spidey nemesis Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin, or even Peter Parker's notorious boss at the Daily Bugle J. Jonah Jameson. There has also been talk about Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin from the Netflix series Daredevil showing up in the film, considering how he's also a Spider-Man villain in the comics. Although D'Onofrio has certainly shown interest in reprising the role, the actor ultimately shut down rumors that he'd be showing up in Homecoming.

Michael B. Jordan Set To Reunite With Ryan Coogler For 'Black Panther'; Lupita Nyong'o In Talks To Join

Marvel Studios has been at a high point lately following the success and overwhelmingly positive response to Captain America: Civil War from both fans and critics. While many characters had their moments to shine in the film, the introduction of Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther has certainly been a standout among audiences. Although fans have to wait another two years to see him back on the big screen in his own solo film, it sounds like it will certainly be worth the wait. With Boseman and Creed director Ryan Coogler already attached to the project, it sounds like both Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong'o will also be joining the film's cast. 

THR brings us word that Jordan will in fact be joining the film, and his role will likely be that of a villain. Jordan's involvement doesn't come as much of a surprise considering his relationship with director Ryan Coogler, and he has starred as the lead in both his films Creed and Fruitvile Station. This won't be Jordan's first role in a comic book movie, having played Johnny Storm in Fox's critically panned Fantastic Four reboot last summer. While rumors had suggested that Fox was planning to still release a sequel to Fantastic Four, Jordan's willingness to move on to other projects doesn't seem like a good sign for that film.

Jordan's involvement in the film is certainly exciting, but its still hard to tell what villain the actor could be playing. The most likely candidates are either T'Challa's adoptive brother White Wolf, who is traditionally portrayed as Caucasian in the comics but may just be American in the film. He may also be portraying Man Ape or Erik Killmonger, who are both very physically imposing villains in the comics. Jordan's character may not be the only villain in the film, as Black Panther's famous nemesis Ulysses Klaue was already introduced in Age of Ultron with Andy Serkis likely returning in the part.

As for Nyong'o, the actress is reportedly in talks to join the film but hasn't officially signed on yet. Nyong'o has a strong relationship with Disney after playing a role in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jungle Book, and will now likely join their Marvel universe as well. THR claims the actress will be playing a love interest to Boseman's T'Challa, but its still unknown which specific character she will be playing. While fans have campaigned heavily for Nyong'o to play Onroe Munroe aka Storm of the X-Men (Who marries T'Challa in the comics), the character's right are owned by Fox. Its possible that she can be playing love interest Monica Lynne from the comics, or she may just be playing T'Challa's sister Shuri and not a character romantically involved with him. 

So far the cast of Black Panther has been shaping up to be very impressive, and we'll surely be getting even more casting announcements very soon. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has already stated that the cast of Black Panther will be 90% African American and African, so it sounds like we'll be planning the majority or if not all of the film in Wakanda. While there has been no official announcements about the inclusion of Serkis' Klaue, Martin Freeman's Everest Ross, or Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier in the film as of yet, their involvement will likely be revealed some time soon.
