Multitude Of 'Justice League' Details Revealed; Will All Be One Film With Steppenwolf As The Villain

Comic-Con may be just right around the corner, but it appears Zack Snyder and the folks over at DC couldn't wait till then to drop the latest on the upcoming Justice League movie. Following the generally negative reaction to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder and co. have been making a conscious effort to keep both fans and general audiences excited for whats to come in the DC Expanded Universe. Several journalists from big movie sites (Sadly no invite for us, what's up with that Zack Snyder?) were allowed to visit the set of the upcoming team-up film and they revealed several juicy new details about the movie that are sure to get everyone talking.

There's a lot of cover here of course so we'll get the simple stuff out of the way first, and by that I mean the least interesting. For one thing it was revealed that Justice League will be a standalone movie and won't be split into two parts like it was previously reported it would. The team itself seems to be set at Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and a yet to be revived Superman, with no mention of Green Lantern from any of these set reports. While it was rumored he would appear in the second Justice League film, this hasn't been confirmed by anyone over at DC. Below you can also see the official logo for the film that you saw at the start of this article:
Now there's so much information to put together here so I've organized it into bullets below, but just to briefly summarize we now know that the film's villain will be Darkseid's nephew Steppenwolf.
He has yet to be cast, but the character will be coming to Earth with his army of parademons to retrieve a motherbox while the other two are in Atlantis and Themyscira. We also now finally know who Willem Dafoe is playing in the film, and it'll be the Atlantean Vulko who shares a close relationship with Aquaman. The film was also have a lighter tone than Batman v. Superman, and Ezra Miller's Flash will providing much of the comedic relief. Below is the collection of all the details put together from each sites set visit:

  • Batman will be a changed man in this movie following the death of Superman, and this inspires him to put together the team. He won't be as dark of a person, yet he'll be seeking redemption. The first half of the film will deal with this with Superman most likely returning to fight alongside the league in the second half. Its rumored that he'll return with a mullet and black suit like he did in the famous Death of Superman comic series.
  • While the film is in fact a standalone, Snyder made it clear that the movie doesn't just end right there and there's more story to tell. He also confirmed that there is still a second film set at the same release date it was initially announced for.
  • Snyder admits he was caught off guard by the reactions to Batman v. Superman and it forced him to make changes to Justice League and its tone will be very different than that of the former.
  • Flash's costume is reportedly made from space suit and ship parts with over 148 pieces put together. Collider believes just the cowl itself includes 70 different pieces. He'll apparently be getting an upgraded suit later in the film courtesy of Batman.
  • Cyborg's suit will be basically 90% CGI all the way from the neck down.
  • Batman will also have a new Batmobile which a photo was released of, as well as a new version of his armored suit. He'll also have two new vehicles one a jet called The Flying Fox, another called Nightcrawler which was designed by his father.
  • Ben Affleck once again confirmed he's working on a Batman solo film with Geoff Johns but claims it probably won't make its proposed release date as they aren't done with the script as he still doesn't feel happy with it yet.
  • J.K. Simmons will have the classic Jim Gordon look and mustache in the film.
  • Junkie XL (Mad Max: Fury Road) is returning to provide the film's score, but its still unknown whether Hans Zimmer will also be returning.
The new Batmobile mentioned above
So there you have it, those are all the big take aways we got for the collection of details given by different sites across the web. Most of it fits pretty in line with what we would expect from where Batman v. Superman left off, as well as the improvements Snyder needs to make for the ensemble film. Certain things that are a bit surprising are of course the choice to go with Steppenwolf and the villain rather than Darkseid, which means they have plans for the big bad. Steppenwolf will be working for Darkseid to some capacity, similar to how Loki worked for Thanos in the first Avengers movie. The character was originally included in a scene being discovered by Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor in Dawn of Justice, but it was ultimately cut from the movie.
Many of the sites all stressed just how fun and light the tone of the movie feels, especially thanks to Ezra Miller's Flash. It seems like he'll really be the big scene stealer here much like Spider-Man in Civil War, and it seems he'll have a strong bromance going on with Cyborg. He apparently shares a great scene with Batman when he shows up at his apartment to recruit him for the Justice League, where he apparently brings up the security camera footage of him seen in Dawn of Justice. Barry apparently tries to play it off as if he has no idea what he's talking about, and most of the sites credited Ezra Miller's comedic timing opposite Ben Affleck's straight man to be what made the scene work so well.
So what do you think of all these new Justice League details? Do they make you more excited for the movie? Do you feel Snyder is headed in the right direction? Let us know below!
