DC Announces Their Upcoming Slate Of Films Including A Surprising Adaption Of The 'Flashpoint' Storyline

As one would expect, DC's main focus at Comic-Con this year was to promote the upcoming Justice League film. But thankfully the studio had some announcements in store, clarifying their future slate of movies including Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad sequels, a Batgirl movie, Justice League Dark to name a few. But probably the most exciting of them all was their adaption of one of the most critically acclaimed storylines published by DC: Flashpoint Paradox. It has been revealed that this will be the title and plot for Ezra Miller's upcoming Flash solo film. The storyline traditionally follows the plot of the Flash stopping the death of his mother, in turn causing a shift in time and space that changes the fate of the Justice League as we know it.

One key component of the storyline is the inclusion of the Reverse Flash, but with no casting news imminent it may be somewhere in the near future that we receive any additional casting news pertaining to the Flash. The film is also still waiting on a director, with several names having been thrown around but Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) still as the seeming favorite. Currently the only people connected with the film are Ezra Miller, who is playing the title character, Billy Krudup as his father Henry Allen, and Kiersey Clemons who will be playing his love interest Iris West.
Interesting fan theories state that the Flashpoint may be the turning point for the DCEU to try and correct mistakes believed to be made in prior DCEU films, similar to how the Fox's X-Men franchise utilized the Days of Future Past storyline in order to correct the course of the films made in the past. Will it seems unlikely the studio would want to make such drastic changes to their established universe so soon after a Justice League film, fans are hoping these changes could make things closer to how they are in the comics. The film has no release date yet, but joins a stacked slate of films including 2019's Shazam!, Suicide Squad 2, Wonder Woman 2, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps, The Batman, and Justice League Dark.
It is also possible that Walking Dead stars Lauren Cohen and Jeffrey Dean Morgan could reprise their roles from Batman v. Superman as Martha and Thomas Wayne. In the Flashpoint paradox, Bruce Wayne is murdered as a child during the robbery that takes place in the alley, turning his mother into an insane version of The Joker, and his father into a gun wielding version of the Dark Knight himself. Snyder cast to actors very capable of bringing these roles to life, so the idea of the coming back is both exciting and very likely at the moment. It adds a whole new layer to Bruce's parents that we have yet to see on screen in past films.
